AASHTO Journal reports that while the U.S. will invest about $87 billion annually in the nation's highways, the developing countries of China and India will spend $363 billion and $500 billion, respectively.
Although China and India's transportation network is still in its developmental stage (thereby necessitating a greater level of capital investment), the U.S. Chamber of Commerce estimates the U.S. must spend an additional $50 billion annually just to maintain current capacity and performance levels.
