Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback announced last week that Barb Rankin will serve as the state’s acting transportation secretary.”I’m extremely honored to have been asked by Gov. Brownback to fill this important position as the search continues for a permanent secretary,” Rankin said in a statement. “I look forward to working closely with Deputy Secretary Jerry Younger and KDOT’s very experienced executive staff as we continue to deliver projects under the 10-year T-WORKS transportation plan passed by the Legislature in 2010.”
Rankin joined the agency in June and participated in the T-WORKS rollout, the agency’s re-evaluation of its cable-median barrier policy, and the expansion of the Kansas Department of Transportation’s social-media use.
A native of Wellsville, Rankin came to KDOT after a long career in the banking and financial services sector.
Longtime Secretary Deb Miller recently left the position for a job with a private consulting company. (see Oct. 28 AASHTO Journal story)
