Michigan DOT Director and AASHTO President Honored for “Distinguished Service”

Michigan Department of Transportation Director and American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials President Kirk Steudle was honored this week for his years of service in engineering in the state of Michigan.

Steudle was awarded the 2012 Distinguished Service Award by the Engineering Society of Detroit (ESD) on Wednesday at ESD’s annual awards program in Detroit. The award is given to an individual for exemplary service and contributions to ESD and/or for professional distinction by a member of ESD.

Steudle began his career at MDOT in 1987 and was appointed as Director in January 2011. In his current position, Steudle oversees MDOT’s $3 billion budget and is responsible for the state’s almost 10,000 miles of state highways, 4,000 state highway bridges, and 2,500 MDOT employees. Also in Steudle’s job description is the oversight of Michigan’s multi-modal transportation programs, including public transit, rail, marine, aviation, and other transportation modes.
