Arizona Department of Transportation Director John Halikowski was appointed late last month to the Transportation Research Board’s Subcommittee for National Research Council Oversight.
“Arizona has become a leader in transportation research,” Halikowski said in a statement. “An appointment to the Transportation Research Board’s Subcommittee for National Research Council Oversight positions Arizona to be at the nexus of the best and most innovative research being conducted in the United States. It provides Arizona with a voice in directing the activities of an important national resource.”
TRB Executive Director Robert Skinner, Jr. praised Halikowski and said his experience on other research committees would be a great help.
“John is one of the leaders in our field who really understands the role of innovation in making his constituents’ lives better,” Skinner said. “As chair of the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials’ Standing Committee on Research, he has been a forceful advocate for deploying transportation research results in order to do things smarter, faster, and more cost-effectively.”
The Subcommittee for National Research Council Oversight monitors TRB with regard to committee and panel appointments and report review as well as to assist with the occasional summary of programs presented to the National Research Council Governing Board. The Subcommittee has existed since 1982, when it was created to ensure TRB meets National Research Council standards for objectivity and that its activities are appropriate for the research council.
Halikowski’s term will run until 2016. Additional information on TRB’s committees and subcommittees is available at bit.ly/TRBcommittees.
