The Ohio Department of Transportation announced Tuesday the launch of a new website to help make travel on the state’s roadways safer, easier, and cheaper.
ODOT went live with the new website, Ohgo.com, earlier this week. The site provides users with “up-to-the-minute travel information” such as: current traffic speeds; any accidents or congestion; travel times; road construction, closures, and delays; and winter road conditions (available from November through April). The site also broadcasts traffic cameras so drivers can see current travel conditions for themselves as they are occurring. Users of the site can also link to ODOT’s Twitter and Facebook pages from the site.
“The price we pay for sitting in traffic is significant,” said ODOT Director Jerry Wray in a statement. “It’s time away from our families and money spent on wasted fuel. Ohgo.com will allow motorists to log on, look for traffic tie-ups and pick the best route—saving both time and money.”
The site was developed for multiple user platforms, including mobile phones and tablets. ODOT also said there could be additional features on the site in the future, including the ability for drivers to map their daily commute and then receive updates whenever any incidents (such as accidents or closures) occur.
