Wyoming Residents Give Wyoming DOT High Marks in New Survey

AASHTO Journal, 1 February 2013

Citizens across Wyoming expressed overall satisfaction with their state transportation department, according to recent survey results.

About eight out of 10 Wyoming residents are satisfied overall with WYDOT’s handling of the state’s transportation system, an increase from survey results taken in 2010 (when about 76 percent of citizens were satisfied). About 19 percent were neutral on WYDOT’s stewardship, while only about 2 percent identified as dissatisfied.

The telephone survey, conducted by the Wyoming Survey and Analysis Center (WYSAC) at the University of Wyoming, was conducted between Nov. 27 and Dec. 16 and consisted of 991 adult participant responses. WYDOT contracts with WYSAC to perform the customer satisfaction survey, which is conducted every two years and has taken place since 2002, in order to keep a pulse on how the public feels the department is doing in providing a safe and efficient transportation system.

The survey found that 82 percent of survey participants expressed satisfaction with how WYDOT communicates with the public, which is a strong improvement from 2010 (when about 74 percent were satisfied). The most recent survey also found that 90 percent of residents agreed that traffic delays normally were minimized as much as possible in work zones, which represented a 10 percent increase from 2010.

“We’re proud of the level of service we provide to the citizens of Wyoming,” said Doug McGee, WYDOT public affairs officer. “It’s rewarding to see that reflected in a survey like this.”
