Tom Warne Report, 22 February 2013

Sun Sentinel – February 13, 2013

A former consultant to the Florida Department of Transportation has admitted to taking a bribe from a subcontractor in conjunction with a road project in the Florida Keys. Ron Capobianco, Jr., of Pompano Beach, pleaded guilty to a federal bribery charge, and as a result faces up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine when he is sentenced May 7.

Capobianco worked for the state DOT as an engineering and inspection consultant, and said he was paid $4,000 by a subcontractor working on the Marathon Key road project on U.S. 1 in 2009. In exchange for the bribe, Capobianco admitted he approved the subcontractor’s inflated $25,000 video detection equipment estimate.
