The Rockefeller Foundation last week released results to a recent infrastructure survey, revealing bipartisan support for transportation and infrastructure investments. The survey shows that 71 percent of voters polled think leadership in Washington should seek common ground on legislation related to roads, bridges, and transit systems. Furthermore, two out of three voters polled stated that improving the country’s transportation infrastructure is highly important.
Less encouraging, is the lack of desire to pay more for infrastructure investments and the belief that government dollars are not spent wisely on infrastructure.
The survey highlights four key findings:
1. American voters see improvements in transportation infrastructure as a way to improve the economy.
2. American voters are looking for consensus and cooperation in Washington.
3. American voters see room for improvement in how the government spends money on infrastructure.
4. American voters are open to several funding streams for national transportation projects.
ASCE is working to advance its 5 Key Solutions that call for smarter investment in infrastructure.
