‘Expanded’ Asphalt for CIP Recycling

“Expanded” or foamed asphalt recycling is a viable component for cold-in-place recycling (CIR) in Canada, write Peter Chan, candidate, and Dr. Susan Tighe, Ph.D., P.Eng, professor, Canada
Research Chair, both of the University of Waterloo, Ont., in their technical paper, Exploring Sustainable Pavement Rehabilitation: Cold In-place Recycling with Expanded Asphalt Mix.

Cold in-place recycling (CIR) is a well-established pavement rehabilitation technique in North America, they state, but what they term cold-in-place recycling with expanded asphalt mix (CIREAM) is a relatively new pavement rehabilitation technique.
