Granulated Tire Rubber Provides ‘Thermal Blanket’ in Concrete Applications

Thin asphalt friction course overlays — with rubberized binder derived from granulated tire rubber (GTR) — are gaining notice as viable pavement preservation materials, providing many benefits in
addition to enhanced safety and skid resistance.

Now a new benefit is being recognized, that of their performing as a “thermal blanket” when placed
on portland cement concrete (PCC) pavements.
