Michigan may Apply Drivers License Fee to Roads

Tom Warne Report, 23 September 2011
From Land Line Magazine – September 20, 2011

The governor of Michigan has signed a bill to divert transportation-related funds to roadwork. House Bill 4748, sponsored by state Rep. Dave Agema, halts a $12 million deposit in the Transportation Economic Development Fund’s Targeted Industries program for two years. The fund is geared toward transportation improvements related to new development.

The $12 million in funds, which come from driver’s license fee revenue, will be redirected to state road construction and maintenance, as was proposed by the Michigan Department of Transportation. The shift allows the state transportation department to match all available federal aid highway funds.
