Delaware DOT Gives Public Special Access to its Performance

AASHTO Journal, 20 April 2012

The Delaware Department of Transportation has created an online dashboard where users can find information such as the percentage of acceptable bridges, average wait times for DMV offices, and the number of traffic fatalities in the state.

The dashboard, designed to give Delaware citizens more access to DelDOT’s performance data, reports DelDOT’s success in condition, customer service, performance, and safety. There are multiple measurements in each category showing agency performance across the state by division, county, or transportation mode.

“One of my goals as Secretary is to cultivate a culture at DelDOT that sets clear performance targets, shares them publicly and measures our success in serving taxpayers,” said Secretary Shailen Bhatt in a statement. “Creating a dashboard on our website with up-to-date information on how well we are doing as an agency is one of the ways we can be more focused in our approach to serving citizens, saving money, and becoming more accountable for the job we do each day.”

As more information becomes available, the dashboard will be refreshed and expanded. DelDOT’s dashboard is available at bit.ly/delDOTdash.
