AASHTO News, 21 June 2012

WASHINGTON, D.C.-American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials Executive Director John Horsley today praised President Obama’s nomination of Polly Trottenberg as U.S. Department of Transportation’s Under Secretary for Policy.

“We at AASHTO commend President Obama’s choice of Ms. Trottenberg as the new USDOT Under Secretary for Policy,” Horsley said. “Her experience in transportation policy matters and her time on Capitol Hill make her a real asset to all of us in the transportation community. We very much look forward to working with her in continuing to advance our nation’s transportation infrastructure goals through assisting our state transportation departments.”

Trottenberg is currently the assistant secretary for transportation policy at USDOT, where she focuses on surface transportation reauthorization, livability, high-speed rail, the TIGER program and freight policy development. She spent 12 years working in the U.S. Senate and also served as Executive Director of Building America’s Future, a non-profit organization that promotes infrastructure investment. She now awaits confirmation from Congress to become under secretary.
