Alaska DOT&PF Commissioner to Step Down

AASHTO Journal, 31 August 2012

Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities Commissioner Mark Luiken announced Wednesday he will be resigning from his post later this fall.

Luiken, who joined DOT&PF in 2010 as deputy commissioner of aviation, was appointed as commissioner in November 2010 and approved by the state legislature in April of last year. Prior to his time at DOT&PF, Luiken spent 29 years in the U.S. Air Force, holding several leadership roles.

“My personal commitment throughout has been to loyally serve and support you as a friend, but more importantly as our governor; to model our departments’ values of integrity, excellence, and respect,” Luiken reportedly wrote in his resignation letter to Gov. Sean Parnell. “While we may not always agree on the methods, our pursuit toward a better future for the state we love has never wavered.”

Luiken’s resignation is expected to take effect Oct. 1.
