NY Infrastructure Task Force to Meet in Albany

Tom Warne Report, 12 October 2012

ALBANY, N.Y. – A task force comprised of government, labor and business leaders formed by New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, met this week to push infrastructure projects in New York. State agencies will spend over $40 billion in capital financing through the year 2017, according to a Navigant Capital Advisors report. In 2013 alone, the report found that the state will spend $21 billion on capital expenditures, including $9.7 billion for 24 agencies and $11.7 billion for 22 authorities.

The New York Works Task Force discussed how Department of Transportation infrastructure improvement plans unite with efforts to get more state residents back to work. The task force is working with state officials to develop an infrastructure plan to allocate capital investments between both the private and public sectors.

Capital plans are required to be submitted by agencies and authorities this month to be analyzed by the task force, in advance of the 2013-14 state budget, which Cuomo will release in January. Legislation passed last year means the state Department of Transportation has already begun five design-build contracts to replace or repair 34 bridges.
