LEHI, Utah — The Utah Department of Transportation announced today that all lanes on the Utah County I-15 Corridor Expansion (I-15 CORE) are scheduled to open by Monday morning, Nov. 5. The opening includes two additional lanes on I-15 from Lehi to Spanish Fork.
“This reconstructed freeway will improve traffic flow and safety,” said Todd Jensen, I-15 CORE project director. “Opening all lanes on I-15 will continue to bolster Utah’s economy by improving the movement of people, goods and services throughout the state.”
From Lehi Main Street to the Spanish Fork River, I-15 CORE construction has widened the freeway by two lanes in each direction and replaced the original asphalt with new concrete pavement. Work will continue on the project through December, while crews complete landscaping, drainage, barrier construction, fencing, concrete work, painting and other activities. This work may require lane closures or restrictions at night.
During the next few weeks, crews will continue installing and testing equipment for the Express Lanes. These lanes will be carpool-only until testing is complete – no single-passenger cars with Express Passes will be allowed.
I-15 CORE, Utah’s largest highway construction project, is on schedule for completion in an unprecedented 35 months this December and will be the fastest billion-dollar highway project ever completed in the U.S. The 24-mile project is adding two travel lanes in each direction, rebuilding or replacing 63 bridges and 10 freeway interchanges, and replacing the existing asphalt roadway from Lehi to Spanish Fork with 40-year concrete pavement.
