Study on Rehabilitation Actions on Concrete Bridges

It is essential to apply adequate rehabilitation methods when damage or deficiency is revealed by inspection. Since bridge structures suffer various kinds of deterioration and damages, many kinds of rehabilitation and strengthening methods have been developed. The objective of this sub-topic is to provide bridge engineers with practical, informative examples of these methods. The working group accumulated technical information on effective ways of rehabilitating various types of bridges. This report covers: principal types of damage and defects in concrete bridge components, as well as their causes; general rehabilitation actions; current practice for effective bridge rehabilitation. Damages caused by accidental events such as earthquake, collision and fire are managed in completely different ways and so were not covered in this work.
