Retiring AASHTO Director Honored for Advancing Transportation Research

AASHTO Journal, 25 January 2013

American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials Executive Director John Horsley was honored earlier this month by the Council of University Transportation Centers (CUTC) for his work in and contributions to transportation education and research.

Horsley was honored with CUTC’s Lifetime Achievement in Transportation Research & Education award, which was given during CUTC’s 16th Annual Awards Banquet in Washington, D.C. on Jan. 12.

“I deeply appreciate receiving this award,” Horsley said. “When I meet with the University Transportation Centers each year I get to see the young professors and graduate students who will be the future leaders of transportation. The UTCs are doing a great job.”

Horsley will be retiring from AASHTO at the end of the month. Frederick “Bud” Wright will take over on Feb. 1.

The CUTC awards competition was created to recognize outstanding transportation leaders, students, and faculty for accomplishments in the field, especially pertaining to research and education. The Lifetime Achievement Award was first handed out in 2004 to honor those who have “contributed immensely throughout their professional lives” to transportation education and research.
