AASHTO and FHWA SHRP2 Implementation Assistance Program Available for State DOTs

AASHTO and the Federal Highway Administration announced earlier this week a new SHRP2 Implementation Assistance Program intended to assist state transportation agencies deploy new products developed under the second Strategic Highway Research Program.

The program application is available online and all applications must be submitted by March 22, 2013.

Six new SHRP2 research products were selected for the first round of implementation opportunities, including a tool kit and standard designs to accelerate bridge construction; new planning methods to conserve green spaces and protect the environment during highway construction; two sets of next generation project management tools to address both complex projects and risk; tools to improve operations; and preservation options for high-volume roadways.

Approximately $10.5 million in funding and resource assistance will be available at three participation levels.

Depending on the products, state departments of transportation and metropolitan planning organizations are eligible for the awards, which will be announced in mid to late April. A second round of solicitations will be offered later this summer.
