Highways in Maine have a secure source of funding for at least the next two years. Gov. Paul LePage signed a two-year, $613.6 million highway fund budget, LD1480.

The fund will support the Maine Department of Transportation, the state Motor Vehicle Division and part of the State Police. The majority of the fund’s revenue stream comes from the state fuel tax and vehicle fees.

The governor said the highway fund budget benefits residents throughout the state.

“In order for us to responsibly provide the safest and most reliable transportation system possible, we allocate the funding where it matters most,” LePage said. “This ensures that today’s infrastructure needs are met, while maintaining the ability to plan for future needs.”
