Georgia DOT Helps Public Keep Track of Transportation Investment Act Projects with New Website

AASHTO Journal, 9 August 2013

The Georgia Department of Transportation this week launched a new website that provides information on all projects and activities related to the Transportation Investment Act of 2010 (TIA).

TIA was passed by Georgia voters in three regions: Central Savannah River Area; Heart of Georgia—Altamaha; and River Valley. The measure allowed for a one percent regional sales tax over a 10 year period (beginning Jan. 1, 2013) to fund transportation improvements, putting GDOT in charge of managing the budget, schedule, execution and delivery of all projects that stem from this program. Currently, there are 871 TIA projects, with $1.1 billion in funds budgeted. About $40.5 million in tax revenue has been collected through TIA.

The new website provides information about the program and each of the projects associated with it, as well as project photos, frequently asked questions, meeting presentations, a calendar of public events, and other information. The TIA site also includes audience-specific sections, catering to the informational needs of local governments, consultants and contractors, businesses, and members of the media.

GDOT’s new TIA site is available at GA-TIA.com.
