Browning Steps into Old Role Leading Indiana DOT

AASHTO Journal, 23 August 2013

Karl Browning, former commissioner of the Indiana Department of Transportation from 2006-2009, has resumed his position as leader of INDOT after being chosen by Gov. Mike Pence to replace former Commissioner Michael Cline. Cline left INDOT after three years to pursue a position with Purdue University.

“I am pleased to announce the appointment of Karl Browning as the next Commissioner,” said Gov. Mike Pence in a statement. “Karl is the right leader for this agency at a critical time in the development of our state’s infrastructure, and I am grateful he is willing to continue to serve the people of Indiana in this role. He brings extensive experience, integrity and a steady hand to one of the state government’s most important tasks. Under his leadership, the Indiana Department of Transportation will operate efficiently and for the benefit of Hoosiers across the state.”

Browning has served as executive director of the Hoosier Lottery since 2011. Browning also has held the position of chief information officer of the Indiana Office of Technology, while also carrying private sector experience from serving as president of The Schneider Corporation and senior vice president and chief information officer at Golden Rule Insurance Company.

Browning took over for Brandye Hendrickson, who had served as interim commissioner at INDOT since the end of June.
