Acting Transportation Director Ford Fuchigami plans to leave that Hawaii state post as of Nov. 1, to take a job with the city of Honolulu as director of its Department of Enterprise Services.

Honolulu Mayor Kirk Caldwell announced Fuchigami’s appointment, which is subject to confirmation by the city council.

Gov. Neil Abercrombie’s term in office ends Dec. 1, after he lost an August primary for a second term.

Fuchigami has been in the top HDOT post since May 9, when Glenn Okimoto left as director to take an administrative job at the University of Hawaii.

Okimoto had been director since December 2010, when Abercrombie took office as governor, and Fuchigami was a deputy director for airports from that time until he took over as interim head of the department.

Honolulu’s Department of Enterprise Services is responsible for city golf course and zoo operations, and manages contracts with vendors at Honolulu facilities.
