State DOT Chiefs Join in Sept. 28 Webinar on Transportation Systems Management

AASHTO Journal, 25 September 2015

The CEOs of two state departments of transportation will be interviewed by a former state DOT chief in a Sept. 28 video webinar by the National Operations Center of Excellence.

“That will give viewers the expert views of three seasoned state transportation leaders whose agencies must deal with a range of weather, terrain extremes and other mobility issues as they operate the roads and bridges in their networks.”

Don Hunt, the former executive director of the Colorado DOT, will moderate the event on leadership in transportation systems management and operations.

The 90-minute event runs 2:00 – 3:30 p.m. eastern time. More information, including a registration link, is available here.

The webinar will feature interviews with Carlos Braceras, executive director of the Utah DOT and Malcolm Dougherty, director of California’s department known as Caltrans.

“Ever wonder how other states are transforming their agencies to a TSM&O mindset?” asked NOCoE Executive Director Dennis Motiani. “Come and listen to leaders of two very successful departments of transportation on how they have made this transformation.”

A program guide says the three industry leaders can offer insights to “help participants pinpoint areas of strength and weakness within their own agencies, while gathering information on best practices.”

It also notes that learning from other state DOT professionals can be an important resource to industry officials who are the target audience for such programs.
