ITS America Hall of Fame Recognizes Former TRB Executive Director Robert E. Skinner

 

On June 12, 2016, Former TRB Executive Director Robert E. Skinner was recognized and inducted into the ITS Hall of Fame. The ITS Hall of Fame was established to recognize those whose contributions to the intelligent transportation profession and service to ITS America have been significant, substantial, and long-standing. Inductees are selected annually based on their leadership in the intelligent transportation arena. Recipients personify achievement in the ultimate standards for a leader in the ITS field.

Robert E. Skinner spent his career advancing transportation initiatives by giving 30 years of service to the Transportation Research Board, part of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine. Mr. Skinner joined TRB as senior program officer in 1983. In 1986 he became the director of TRB’s Studies and Special Programs Division, and in 1994 he was appointed executive director of TRB. In this capacity, he addressed a wide range of research and policy issues and transportation challenges facing the nation.

Prior to joining TRB in 1983, Mr. Skinner was a Vice President of Alan M. Voorhees and Associates, a transportation consulting firm, for which he managed the firm’s activities in the eastern United States.
