TDOT Takes ABC Approach for Nashville’s I-40 Renovation

AASHTO Journal, 2 October 2015

A major route into and through downtown Nashville, Tennessee is undergoing a major renovation that involves the use of innovative rapid bridge replacement technologies.

Dubbed the Fast Fix 8 project, the $62 million bridge rehabilitation project is replacing four twin bridges over Interstate 40 using accelerated bridge construction techniques that require short-term, total road closures to allow crews the space to do their jobs and the freedom to work around the clock. The rapid bridge replacement strategy is expected to shave months off the project schedule.

TDOT communication staff is producing extensive public outreach materials to help motorists navigate the complete closures that will include 13 weekends through June 2016.
