Fog sealing

We do several miles of fogsealing each year. Some is done in house and some is contracted. We typically use CSS-1H diluted 50/50 and some GSB.I'm wondering what you are all using for fogseal treatments?

We have found that the CSS-1h is a good emulsion to use.

For application rate on these seals, less is usually best. Better to give two light applications than one heavy application.

Additionally, fog seals can result in friction loss so a light sanding is often used to maintain the friction. Barring that, friction will usually return within a few weeks.

Many agencies are beginning to use fog seals on top of a new chip seal within a few days of chip seal construction. The fog seal locks the stone down a bit better, and fills some of the voids resulting in better retention of the paint markings.

Also, with more and more high-end volatiles being extracted from asphalts by the distributors/refiners, we're beginning to find that rejuvenators have more of a place today than they did 10 years ago. The rejuvenators will add maltenes and some of the high-end oils back into the asphalt. Like the fog seals, friction can be lost with rejuvenators, so a light sanding is often useful.
