Iowa Advisory Commission Hears Pleas to Increase Fuel Taxes

Numerous speakers at a public meeting in Ankeny, Iowa, urged a state advisory panel to recommend an increase in the state’s gasoline tax to better fund transportation infrastructure.Iowa needs to raise an estimated $215 million a year in addition revenue for transportation, the panel was told, and raising fuel taxes is the best option, the Sioux City Journal reported.

Scott Newhard, executive vice president of the Associated General Contractors of Iowa, suggested at last week’s meeting that the gas tax go up by at least 8 cents per gallon.
