The Laborers’ International Union of North America has launched a campaign during the current month-long congressional recess to deliver the message: “It’s time to pass a new highway bill that puts people to work.
“The labor organization’s member-based campaign comes as both the House of Representatives and Senate recessed last week without even introducing bills to reauthorize federal highway and mass-transit programs, which are slated to expire Sept. 30 at the end of this federal fiscal year. Congress has only 24 days after returning to Washington after Labor Day to enact a surface transportation bill. (see Aug. 5 AASHTO Journal story)
