AASHTO President Susan Martinovich, SASHTO Leaders Stress Urgency of Sustaining Federal Funding

More than 500,000 jobs and countless state and local projects to modernize and improve transportation across the United States are in jeopardy, state transportation officials warned at a news conference Tuesday in Louisville, Kentucky. Susan Martinovich, Nevada’s transportation director and president of the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials, joined leaders of state DOTs from the Southeast to send an urgent message to Congress that it must extend current highway and transit funding levels next month.”Congress must take action by Sept. 30 or the federal highway and transit programs that support thousands of jobs in every state will shut down,” Martinovich said during the media briefing at the Southeastern Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials Annual Meeting.
