Guidelines for Shielding Bridge Piers

TRB’s National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP) has issued a request for proposals to develop risk-based guidelines that help quantify when bridge piers should be investigated for vehicular collision forces and be shielded with longitudinal barriers. The project will also develop guidelines for barrier selection, length-of-need, and placement for bridge pier shielding to protect the traveling public. Proposals are due March 8, 2012.
