Nevada Department of Transportation announced July 23 on its Facebook page that it has a new director beginning in early September (bit.ly/NDOTfb).
Rudy Malfabon, current NDOT deputy director, was named by Gov. Brian Sandoval and the State Transportation Board as the incoming director, replacing Susan Martinovich as she retires in the fall. The announcement was broadcast live online during the Nevada State Transportation Board of Directors meeting Monday morning.
Malfabon began his career at NDOT in 1984 as an inspector on the Flamingo Road interchange at I-15 in Las Vegas. He earned his professional engineering license and became resident engineer, ultimately working his way to chief construction engineer at NDOT. Malfabon also held the title of state construction engineer from 1998-2000 at the Washington State Department of Transportation. In 2000, he accepted a position at Jacobs Engineering in Las Vegas, where he worked as manager of the company’s construction management services in the state. Malfabon then came back to NDOT and has focused on improved communication, coordination, and customer service during his time as deputy director.
