AASHTO Announces AASHTOWare Project Estimation™ Project Solicitation

AASHTO Journal, 8 February 2013

The American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials released in December 2012 a project proposal for the development of a web-based estimation system called “AASHTOWare Project Estimation” under the AASHTOWare® Cooperative Software Development Program.

AASHTO is the premier developer of transportation-related software products based on many of its standards, specifications, and guide documents, which are designed specifically to meet the needs of today’s transportation agencies. The AASHTOWare technical-service program is based on a “best practices” approach. It allows member agencies to pool their resources to produce software at a significant cost savings.

The AASHTOWare Project Estimation software will be built as a new module on the existing AASHTOWare Project™ infrastructure using its unified code base and database structure. The new module will become the fourth module of the web-based AASHTOWare Project, the two existing modules being AASHTOWare Project Preconstruction™ and AASHTOWare Project Civil Rights & Labor™. The third module, which will be released in conjunction with AASHTOWare Project Estimation, is AASHTOWare Project Construction & Materials™.

AASHTOWare Project Estimation is to be developed as an application to address the estimating process from project conception to the final detailed estimate/engineer’s estimate. This includes estimating in and through all phases of a project development life-cycle, as well as interacting with the various other applications used by the departments of transportation for project processing. The application will have the ability to address all functional/business requirements for an integrated cost estimation web-based application that is designed to meet the needs of a user base of estimators, business managers, and external/legislative stakeholders.

Questions regarding this project solicitation, the proposed system, or the AASHTOWare Cooperative Software Development Program may be directed to AASHTO Project Manager Melanie Douglass by e-mailing mdouglass AT aashto.org or calling 202-624-8489.
