Pennsylvania Department of Transportation officials announced this week the department is accepting unsolicited proposals for transportation projects through the end of the month in an effort to fully capitalize on all of its transportation funding options.
PennDOT is looking for private sector firms to submit proposals that offer PennDOT ways to bring transportation projects covering all modes to the public. PennDOT is also looking for ideas on more efficient models of current transportation-related programs and services.
“P3 projects are another tool we have to meet or expand Pennsylvania’s transportation services, and this is an opportunity for the private sector to share innovative ways to deliver projects,” said PennDOT Secretary and P3 Board Chair Barry Schoch in a statement. “More than 70 percent of PennDOT’s project spending is already contracted to the private sector, and I look forward to seeing the proposed solutions and projects that will further strengthen this partnership.”
PPPs have gained momentum for PennDOT since Gov. Tom Corbett signed the Public and Private Partnerships for Transportation Act last September, allowing PPP projects in the state for transportation. The tool has been a vital one for several state transportation departments across the country.
PennDOT is accepting these proposals through 11:59 EDT on May 31. Another similar call for unsolicited proposals will occur this fall.
