SHRP2 Webinars Drawing in Participants, Upcoming Webinars Open for Registration

More than 180 participants joined this week’s FHWA/AASHTO webinar on Railroad-DOT Institutional Mitigation Strategies (R16), which was held Thursday, July 18th. The SHRP2 Solution is aimed at assisting transportation agencies and railroads resolve conflicts and streamline review and agreement processes through model legal agreements, recommended practices, sample contracts, and training materials. It will be one of four SHRP2 products included in the next round of Implementation Assistance Opportunities. For those not able to attend, the recording can be found here.

“These webinars provide valuable information about how states can apply for technical and financial assistance through the FHWA/AASHTO Implementation Assistance Program,” said Pam Hutton, AASHTO’s SHRP2 implementation manager. “Not only do the webinars provide a good overview of the product, you can hear tips on the application process, selection criteria, and expectations for advancing the use of the products beyond the initial implementation phase.”

Next week, FHWA and AASHTO will sponsor three additional webinars on SHRP2 Solutions included in the second round. Pre-registration is required:

  • Tuesday, July 23, noon – 1:30 EDT – Expedited Project Delivery (C19). This product includes 24 strategies to address or avoid 16 common constraints to delivering projects faster; use of these strategies will help speed transportation planning and environmental review. Registration is available here.
  • Wednesday, July 24, noon – 1:30 EDT – Performance Specifications for Rapid Highway Renewal (R07). This product provides examples of construction performance specifications requiring greater quality control for accelerated road and bridge projects. Guide performance specifications are provided in the areas of hot-mix asphalt, Portland cement concrete, concrete bridge decks, embankment/pavement foundations, other geotechnical application areas, work zone traffic control, and quality management.   • Friday, July 26, noon – 1:30 EDT – Managing Risk in Rapid Renewal Projects (R09). This product was also featured in the first round of implementation assistance opportunities and two pilot projects were selected. In this round, lead adopters are being sought to use this product to identify, assess, mitigate, allocate, and monitor risk on accelerated reconstruction projects. Registration is available here.
