AASHTO and FHWA Announce Round 4 Recipients of SHRP2 Implementation Assistance Program

AASHTO Journal, 8 August 2014

In a letter sent to state department of transportation officials today, the Federal Highway Administration and AASHTO announced that round 4 of the second Strategic Highway Research Program (SHRP2) will provide implementation and technical assistance to projects in 37 states (see the selections here).

According to the letter, “The tremendous response by organizations around the country demonstrates the strong interest in the Implementation Assistance Program, and commitment to the deployment of SHRP2 products. Round 4 assistance opportunities were available at the proof of concept pilot, lead adopter incentive, and user incentive levels, and featured the first SHRP2 opportunities in the Safety area. Selections for Round 4 represent varied geographic locations throughout the Nation.”

The joint FHWA/AASHTO Implementation Assistance Program began in 2013 and has thus far put 24 SHRP2 Solutions into the hands of transportation agencies on approximately 200 projects.

Officials expect product-specific Webinars for Round 5 to be held in early December, the letter said. The application period for Round 5 will begin on January 16, 2015, with selections announced in early April. Round 6 is planned for June 2015. Information on implementation opportunities for Rounds 5 and 6 can be found here.
