CHEYENNE, Wyo – Governor Matt Mead has named William (Bill) Panos as his choice to head the Wyoming Department of Transportation.

Panos was one of four nominations for the position submitted to the Governor by the Wyoming Transportation Commission. The agency is responsible for the maintenance, engineering and design of Wyoming highways.

The Department of Transportation includes the state highway patrol and oversight of airport improvements in Wyoming.

“Bill Panos has proven himself as a talented leader and effective manager as the Director of the School Facilities Department,” Mead said. “I am pleased he agreed to assume the responsibility of the Wyoming Department of Transportation (WDOT). The WDOT has a proud tradition of quality leadership and one that continues with Bill Panos as Director.”

Mr. Panos has been the interim director since October 12. He replaced John Cox who served for 11 years as WYDOT’s director.
