Long-Term Pavement Performance Committee Letter Report: August 5, 2011

On August 5, 2011, TRB’s Long-Term Pavement Performance (LTPP) Committee sent its 28th letter report to Victor Mendez, administrator of the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), and John Horsley, executive director of the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO). The committee’s reports are aimed at supporting the further success of the LTPP program, securing the future of the LTPP database, and fulfilling the promise of better roads through the development and utilization of LTPP’s products.

The report includes recommendations or requests for additional information related to the following topics: transition to the new DataPave Online system; coordination between the Office of Pavement Technology and the Office of Infrastructure Research and Development; reorganization of the FHWA’s Office of Infrastructure; specific funding for the LTPP in the FY 2012 budget; development of webinars to keep LTPP stakeholders informed; and a “skeleton” database.

The report also reinforces the Committee’s earlier recommendation for the establishment of the National Pavement Performance Database (NPPD).
