AASHTO President Steudle: Innovation Must Pave the Way During Lean Times

AASHTO Journal, 9 December 2011

American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials President Kirk Steudle discusses in a new Presidential Profile
video released this week by AASHTO’s Transportation TV both his priorities and the challenges that lie ahead for the association, the industry, and state transportation departments.

Accelerating the implementation of innovative solutions to speed project delivery and save precious resources are just some of the top priorities for Steudle, director of the Michigan Department of Transportation.

Also high on Steudle’s priority list are utilizing asset- and performance-management solutions to generate data-driven decision making, and working for the passage of a new surface transportation reauthorization bill.

Steudle took over the presidency in October of the 97-year-old association during one of the most difficult periods facing transportation since the creation of the Interstate Highway System 55 years ago.
