AASHTO Welcomes New SHRP2 Implementation Manager

AASHTO Journal, 31 August 2012

Colorado’s Pam Hutton has joined the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials as the new Strategic Highway Research Program 2 (SHRP2) Implementation Manager.

Hutton previously served as Chief Engineer at the Colorado Department of Transportation from 2007-2011. She has knowledge within AASHTO as she served as a member of the Standing Committee on Highways and as Vice Chair of the Standing Committee on Highway Traffic Safety. In 2009, Hutton was awarded the Thomas H. MacDonald Memorial Award, revered as AASHTO’s top honor for lifetime achievements and contributions in the transportation industry.

Holding both a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Colorado, Hutton is also a certified Professional Engineer.

Hutton will split her time as an AASHTO consultant leading the SHRP2 implementation effort between her office in Colorado and AASHTO headquarters in Washington, D.C.

Joining Hutton is Kevin Sanders, who has come on board at AASHTO as an apprentice for nine months as he pursues his master’s degree in public policy and management from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh. He will be based at AASHTO’s office in D.C.

Congress established SHRP2 in 2006 to investigate the underlying causes of highway crashes and congestion in a short-term program of focused research. To carry out that investigation, SHRP2 has targeted four interrelated focus areas: safety, renewal, reliability, and capacity. More information about SHRP2 is available at bit.ly/TRB-SHRP2.
